“This isn’t the way we usually go, Daddy.”
“I know, little one. We need to go this way today.”
“But why?”
“Because I am taking you this way.”
“But why?”
“Little one. You don’t always need to know why.”
“Yes I do. You told me to ask questions if I didn’t understand.”
I knew those words would come back to bite me. “Yes, you’re right. But sometimes the knowing will be more hurtful than the not knowing.”
“But why?”
“Little one. I just need you to be quite for a minute while we walk. OK?”I didn’t like not answering their questions. They are so smart and I want them to stay curious. However, this is one of those times that if I answer the questions it will only ruin the surprise.
We walk around the corner and before we take another step they see the balloons and all their friends waiting in the park.
I started going another way… It would have been a short story. I am doing my best to keep my post short and sweet.
