Get to know a bit about the characters before you buy the book.

Simon Patrick

Simon is old enough to know he needs to get on with his life, yet young enough that he doesn’t know how.

He is all about the music, all and any kind of music. He can’t remember a time that he didn’t know anything about music. He can play anything with little tutorial, and once he can play something he can recite anything he’s hear once. In his mind, this doesn’t make him special… it’s just who he is. Besides, no one special comes from where he does.

Simon is just trying to live his life the best way he knows how… he doesn’t know that his best life is getting attention out there.

Mina O’Neill

Mina is a good girl, always done what is expected of her. She works hard, she does what is right. She even has a ‘rainy day fund’. How many young adults can say that.

Mina loves to sing, and she’s good at it. She wants to be a performer, even though she has no musical education. That’s her goal, learn music, sing music, write music. She’s already written a song, though she isn’t confident that it is any good.

Her one flaw, if you can call it that, is she talks to herself. Not out loud, that would be absurd, no, she carries on conversations with herself in her head. She likes to talk with like minded people.

Bailey Silverthorne

Bailey is the epitome of perfection, at least he thinks so. He is tall, dark, handsome, from the right side of the tracks, has money (or access to it), girls love him and he loves them. He doesn’t even need to try. He gets everything he wants… it helps that he doesn’t want for anything, he doesn’t know he has a choice.

His parents have his life spelled out for him. Higher education from the same Ivy league school his family has been attending for generations, then take over the family business. There is no need to share with him what that business is, or how they expect him to run it, that for him to figure out. Starting with a trip this summer to the European boundary and all their factories there.

Bailey has no reason to question anything… until… he can’t even get the girls name. Then he starts questioning everything.

Aphrodite Malone

When you take a look at how Aphrodite grew up and the challenges she faced at a young age it is no surprise that she goes by Malone and is as angry as she is. She needed to be tough growing up in the system. She had to learn to fight, defend herself, be strong and show no emotions. She lost anyone who loved her and wanted what was best… all but Duncan. They still have each other’s backs.

It’s Malone and Duncan against the world and they are going to survive the only way they know how. They learned in juvie that drugs where the way to go. Always in demand and if you set up the supply right you can be the last one standing. Make a name for yourself, be the drug dealer of choice, be recognizable, have on hand what anyone wants.

They’ve done well for themselves, even with their limited education… Neither one made it past the first week of junior high, Malone accumulative time is less than a day. When they were under age they made sure only one went to juvie at a time. Now, though, with this new legal system they need to figure out a different path..

Anastasia Atias

Ana lives in a black and white world. It either ‘is’ or it ‘is not’. She takes everything literally, so if you ask her; “What’s up?” she will tell you; “the sky”. And not understand why you asked. Her mother believed in her, though, and helped her to set up a relatively simple life. She works at a dinner where she has her regulars and has people who look out for her. So there is no reason she can’t continue to live on her own, even though her mother died eighteen months ago.

She is capable, despite the voices she hears. Her mother still talks to her, though Ana has come to realize that not everything her mother told her is true. So who is she to believe now? The voices inside or outside her head?
