Basement people, balcony people…

Which one are you?

I am not sure in which life I came across this concept. Basically there are three kinds of people in the average person’s life. Those who are on the same level as yourself. Those who are above you. Those who are bellow you.

The different people on the different levels can have an affect on you. They can keep you were you are, bring you up or pull you down. More importantly YOU can have an affect on them. The hard thing is to figure out who is who in your life. And WHO YOU ARE.

I do my best to bring people up to my level. I am not saying that I am ‘above’ anyone, just that I try and lift people up. I acknoledge strangers with a smile, greet my friends and family with a hug, and try and make life a little easier for anyone I come in contact with. (Not always successfully: see “daily goals” post).

I have done my best to get ride of, or limit my time with, those in my life that bring me down. The difficulty is that I don’t want to do what needs doing to truly make the choice to evict some people from my life. Other times when I am doing my best to bring someone up, they are doing their best to pull me down. In those instances I need to learn to let go. Not always easy. Nothing about this is. Learning who is there for you and who is there to use you. Who has your best interests in mind and who has only their own interests in thier mind. The difference between selfish peopole and selfless people, isn’t an easy one.

Also learning who you are in the moment. Thank the creator above that I have people in my life who are truly there for me when I need them. They bring me up when I can’t do it for myself. Of course I reciprocate in their times of need. A true relationship in my books. For me, a healthy relationship is about partnership. 50/50 on average. Meaning it isn’t 50/50 all the time. Sometimes it’s 60/40 other times 20/80 and so on. BUT at the end of the day, it equates to 50/50.

So, who do you want to be? Someone who lift people up? Tears them down? Or just sits idly by and does nothing?
